MyChild’sCancer Spotlight

Alin Wagner

Meet our dear Alin:  An active supporter of MyChildsCancer for the past 7 years - whether by always volunteering to help others in the "Parents for Parents" group (a WhatsApp and FB group for parents fighting childhood cancer), or by raising awareness and funds to support MyChild’sCancer’s activities at every opportunity and platform she has. Her ‘’Redhead Whiskey’’ club  has been donating part of its events’ income to our cause, and just recently she organized an auction dedicated to MyChild’sCancer.

Alin, thank you for choosing to be part of MyChild’sCancer family, and for helping these little heroes fight cancer! We are all forever grateful.

1. How did you first hear about MyChild’sCancer?

I was introduced to Oded about 7 years ago when he was just setting up his website and parent interviews. I was very touched by the concept and have participated throughout the years in different projects and in different capacities to help the organization in whatever way I can: raising money for families who come here for treatments, visiting them, helping to redesign the website, promoting the fund on social media etc.

2. Why did you decide to help MyChild’sCancer over other worthy causes? Any personal experience with pediatric cancer that you would like to share?

I was impressed by the notion that we can save lives by changing the way we see our role in the event of encountering cancer. Oded did an unusual act in finding the right treatment for his daughter, that wasn't necessarily "what the doctor ordered" (literally), and I was blown away by the idea of taking an active role in finding the right treatment for oneself or a dear one - it's no longer protocol treatment that's the 'end-all-be-all', there are options out there that can make a world of a difference, and there's a lot of information that exists out there by the common knowledge and experience of parents who already went through dealing with Childhood Cancer, that must and should be leveraged by others and there's no need to waste precious time re-discovering it. I lost both my parents to cancer and I myself had a small rundown with Breast Cancer. I know how cruel the disease can be and how much suffering and heartache can be saved by sharing knowledge.

3. What do you wish everyone knew about MyChild’sCancer’s cause?

That many dedicated souls are working at devoting their personal time to help support this cause that saves lives. It takes tremendous emotional strength and the fact that MyChild’sCancer has grown over so many years is a testimony to the critical role it plays in directing and supporting parents that are lost, emotionally as well as "operationally", once they discover their child is sick with cancer.

4. Where do you work? What are your other passions? Can you tell us a bit about what you do?

I am Head of Marketing for Roni Rabl and Alembika.com, a fashion company targeting women over 50. In my free time I run Redhead Whiskey that operates 2 Whiskey Clubs and private Whiskey tasting events and tours, 3% of all our events income goes to MyChild’sCancer as a donation. My dad, who passed from cancer, loved Whiskey and taught me the love of good food, good drinks, good life, all to be shared with people we love. The clubs were initially founded to commemorate my dad's memory and pass on his philosophy of life. I see Whiskey bringing people together with a good story, bringing couples closer through a sensual experience. I see people making friendships and opening up their hearts. It brings me joy and makes me feel closer to my dad.

5. Anything else you wish to share

Donate Whisky to MyChild’sCancer and I’ll run the auction on it! Anyone who has that one bottle of Whiskey that sits at home and that they don't like so they don't open - a bottle someone else would love to have! If you have a Whiskey bottle you are not going to open, please donate it and I will gladly run an Auction on it where all proceeds go to support MyChildsCancer and help to raise more awareness and dollars. It's a great way to donate, as well as get a great bottle for a good cause!
